Wait, what? I’m talking about the story behind the writing of a story.
I had the idea for Eleanor and the Christmas Carol Fudge over five years ago. It consisted of one scene. That was it. A girl and a graveyard and a few more details that I won’t explain because I don’t like to give spoilers. But from that first glimpse, I knew I wanted to tell her story. Months later I had the idea for her name. I knew she would be a modern-day Scrooge and I became so excited about writing the book. But life had a way of demanding my time and efforts and energy elsewhere. I thought about her story, planned it, made a few attempts. I also invited friends to write similar-themed books with me. Eventually, I began to carve out more time to write. Sometimes early, sometimes late. Some days in long stretches, other times in short spurts. Always anxious for the story on the page to reflect the way it played out in my mind. Sometime along the way, a friend mentioned this year would mark the 175th anniversary of the publication of A Christmas Carol.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate a book anniversary than with a book inspired by the original characters and story!
I’m excited to share Eleanor with the world.
I hope readers will enjoy her journey as she works to save a fudge business and learns a little about love in the process.
